13,500 Prisoners Escape in Nepal: 5 Minor Prisoners Die in Clash with Police

Taking advantage of the social media ban and violent protests against corruption in Nepal, more than 13,500 prisoners escaped. Additionally, 560 accused persons taken into custody also fled. A clash occurred between security personnel and prisoners in a prison in western Nepal, during which five minor prisoners died and four were seriously injured in police firing.

Police said that inmates in a correctional facility tried to snatch weapons from security personnel, after which the police had to open fire. So far, more than 1,000 people have been injured and 30 killed in this protest. At the same time, local media claim that the country's first female Chief Justice, Sushila Karki, may become the interim Prime Minister of Nepal. She has reportedly received the support of Gen-Z.

Prisoners Tried to Escape from Nepal's Dhading Jail
Prisoners attempted to break through the security cordon in Nepal's Dhading Jail. During this, the Nepali army opened fire, killing two prisoners. The deceased have been identified as 75-year-old Jeet Bahadur Gale (convicted in a rape case) and 36-year-old Indra Bahadur Dala (imprisoned for drug-related crimes). Seven prisoners were injured while trying to escape. The uprising started at 9 a.m. and the situation completely deteriorated by 1:18 p.m. Six security personnel were also injured in the clash.

All Prisoners Escape from Sindhuli Jail
All 471 prisoners escaped from Sindhuli Jail in Nepal. According to the jail administration, the prisoners set fire inside the jail and broke the main gate to escape on Wednesday morning. There were 428 men and 43 women imprisoned in the facility. Superintendent of Police Lal Dhwaj Subedi said the prisoners had planned the mass escape, and amidst huge commotion, they all managed to flee.
